Royal Grass® considers it an important task to have as little impact on the environment as possible. For that reason, on 22 November, during the 15th anniversary of the artificial grass manufacturer, Royal Grass® and its partners have signed a declaration in which all parties are committing themselves to the plans for a circular artificial grass economy. In accordance with the circular principles, the reusability of plastics will be maximized, and the use thereof will thus be reduced.
In the past decades, the use of artificial grass took flight. This is not surprising as high-quality artificial turf for landscaping can hardly be distinguished from natural grass anymore. Unfortunately, this increase in the use of artificial grass can also have damaging effects on the environment. For instance, when artificial turf isn’t recycled after its life cycle but ends up on the waste mountain. In addition, the increased production of artificial grass leads to more CO2 emissions and to more use of fossil fuels and raw materials.
Bioplastics
Royal Grass® has set clear objectives that should lead to a minimal carbon footprint. As of 2030, only recycled or renewable bio-based plastics will be used to comply with these environmental goals. The company will no longer use plastics that are harmful to humans or the environment and thermal recycling will no longer be used.
By committing themselves to the environmental objectives, Royal Grass® and its partners are taking their responsibilities and are taking an important step towards realizing those objectives.
